Welcome, welcome, to our first Dark Challenge, one in a series of low stress mini-challenges loosely based on Dark Magic in the Potterverse. This is intended to be a low stress challenge, encouraging short pieces of 5k or fewer words, drabbles, drawbles, fanvids, graphics for the community (e.g. icons, banners etc), crafts and meta. There is no prompt claiming for this challenge, other than in the case of meta, in respect of which see more detail in the 'Posting and Rules' section. In relation to the fanwork prompts, you may create something for as many or as few of the prompts as you wish, or create something for your own prompt. The prompts we have included are intended to spark inspiration, but you are under no obligation to use them. You simply have to incorporate the overall 'theme' of Imperius, which we have defined very broadly as the following:

- Being forced to act against one's will;
- A complete or partial loss of control;
- Inducement to commit crime;
- Performing magic beyond age/capability;
- Mind control;
- Memory loss/addled mind;
- A false sense of happiness/security;
- Resisting adversity;
- Dark magic leaving its mark;
- Feeling pain after previously feeling numb.

For your sign up you simply need to include an age statement confirming you are over 18, and let us know that you would like to participate, stating if you intend to write some meta or create a fanwork. Feel free to bombard us with any gifs, pictures or whatever you like to confirm your interest! Comments will not be screened.

As noted in the rules, these prompts are simply for inspiration. You are under no obligation to incorporate any of these, if you don't choose to do so. You can use them loosely, or not use them at all and you can use more than one, if you wish. All prompts (with the exception of meta) may be claimed any number of times.

What am I to do when I'm having Tenth Doctor withdrawals and I've seen each of his episodes about 1000 times each?
I miss him.

Dec. 31st, 2011

I love about 90% of these. The Doctor? Score! Jedi-- I always knew it. Some I don't understand (because I don't follow the fandom) such as Hunger Games, which I am boycotting, and Game of Thrones (and several others). What I don't get is the Cylon. Where did that come from? Also, I would be a solid contestant for Ravenclaw except for my ADD (curse you!), which firmly pushes me into Gryffindor. Sad, sad day, since I generally share the Slytherins opinion of Gryffindor (not quite so nasty, but basically self important, illogical hot heads).

Old work

When I read through anything of mine that's older than six months, I am mortified. Especially since now, while I love reading the occasional fluffiness, I need some real things thrown in. I'm not going to get into that. I just don't know if I should keep up what I already have or if I should take it all down (like I really want to). I have people who have favorited these stories (why?) and I don't want to disappoint them. I also have a story that is half posted, but completely finished. I don't want to post the last few chapters- they mortify me. Yeah, I used mortify twice. That's how much I don't like them.

The reason why I say this is because I've been working on my RL/HG one (you're next, Barty Crouch, Jr.). It's nowhere near posting ready, but I don't want to be worried about this unfinished work when I do post it. Bah humbug.

Re: Remus

I wondered today which Harry Potter character I would choose to take out of the book and make real, if possible. The answer was immediate in forthcoming. Remus. Now, other times it may be Draco Malfoy or Severus Snape, even Harry at times, but I think that generally, it would be Remus (Not the movie Remus. I love David Thewlis, but he is NOT the Remus described in the books. And, what's with the Hitler 'stache?). He's the perfect mixture of sensitive and dominant. I know that I need a dominant man, but sensitive's something that I appreciate as well.

So, I've been skimming--because my life is gone. I have no time, therefore no reading--over a few fics and I have found some pet peeves. I develop them pretty easily.

1. Non-guilty Remus: Of course he's going to be guilty. That's his freaking personality.

2. Glamorous lycanthropy: Ummm... no. It's not glamorous nor is it something to seek after, unless your pure evil like Greyback. It's painful and it means that you are endangering other people.

3. Remus "embracing" his lycanthropy: See number 1

4. Hermione turning: Really? Seriously? Are you just that lazy? Hermione would be far too careful to let anyone do that, and Remus would never forgive himself if he was the one to do it. So, just no. So many good stories have been ruined by that. Also refer to 2.

5. Werewolf Hermione being pregnant: Uh, think logically people. How does that even make sense? Even if she could change her entire physiology without having a miscarriage--umm, really?-- spending that much energy once a month would kill both the mother and the child. I read a story that wasn't that great, but an enjoyable read nonetheless (especially since I am a sucker for unrequited love stories that end up well--as long as there is no weak!Hermione or suicidal thoughts or anything. C'mon people) and Hermione had to be a werewolf in order to have Lupin's children at all. Say what?

6. Them falling into bed together: I realize that a good PWP, if it is being true to the category, has no plot. Even most one shots need some leeway on the plot department. But there are two types of stories: Plot driven and character driven. If you don't have a plot, people, you need real characters. So they can't be suddenly tearing at each others clothes, enjoyable as that may be.

7. Using Teddy as a way to get Hermione and Remus to hook up: He's a child people! He can be a central part of the story, but if you're just using him... ugh. That's gross.

8. His werewolf being another person that he can talk to: Huh? I don't get how that works. At all. Explain the logic here, please.

9. Details of past relations with Sirius: I am not in the least bit a slash girl. At all. I find it a bit squicky, just because I have no inclinations towards homosexuality at all, so seeing it described in detail is a bit weird for me. Also, why can't they just have been friends. I understand that it makes for a good story line and everything, but it is in almost every Remus fic. Even het fics. Why is it so impossible for people to view the marauders (because, lets face it, its in most marauders fics) as guys who are just close friends? I know this may sound a bit homophobic, which I'm not, but I don't understand why it is in every fic.

It's atrociously late (when I have to get up so early), so tschüss. I may choose to edit or update this later. Sorry if it makes no sense or if it's too ranty. I plead tiredness

P.S. I am attempting (for the how-manyth time?) to abandon my fanfic reading, at least mostly, but I will hopefully continue writing (tall order there! No inspiration for my poor muse, who hasn't liked me lately anyways). I am particularly inspired to work on my RL/HG one right now. I hope that I can actually finish one of my novel length fics sometime soon.

P.P.S. Edited a bit and added a bit, and am slightly embarrassed at this. Sorry if I offend anyone, I'm not trying to. I kept it up because I find it amusing at how almost drunk I get when I have no sleep. And, because, while I wasn't very tactful and nice, I do honestly feel like poor Remus gets abused in fanfic.

Which Hogwarts house will you be sorted into?

This was my in depth results:

Ravenclaw - 12
Slytherin - 12
Hufflepuff - 11
Gryffindor - 9

Funny thing is, I know that I would have been sorted into Gryffindor (although I do like to imagine that it would have been Slytherin). While I may have the qualities of a Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, I am not nearly studious enough or even nice enough to be a Hufflepuff-- I'm the first to admit that I am a spitfire. And Slytherin has always been for the sexy and, if written right, hilarious men.

Now back to the homework I have been neglecting and the presentation auf Deutsch that I will be making today. Bah humbug.

It's about one in the morning here...

But I seem to have had a small epiphany, if you can call it that. I went to bed almost three hours ago, and I had weird dreams of Regency England (that's what I get for reading Georgette Heyer right before I go to bed). There were loyal servants that I could trust, and by intricately organizing them, I could stay warm and safe. Each time I entered a new room, I would have to find a safe arrangement of the servants, which required me to turn in my bed. Crazy! But, I woke a bid later, and discovered that now, my knees down, I was freezing, but above that... Well, I was (am) hot to the touch, and occasionally can feel it, but mostly I feel numb. It was a bit weird to discover, when I rubbed my eyes, that my hands were actually freezing as well, but I couldn't feel them.

Well, needless to say, my head hurts so badly! And, the weird thing is, all of a sudden I wanted my mum. A grown woman, suddenly wanting her mum. But, here's the really strange part.

My mother was abusive to me. I try not to talk about it too much, but I find being open with people is better than closing it up inside. And since, you are all pretty much cyber friends, it's a bit easier than talking to anyone else about it.. She was only somewhat physically abusive, it was mostly emotional. Compound that with being, well if not sexually abused, introduced to sex at far, far too young an age, I was pretty messed up growing up. Now, I have worked hard to forgive my mother. She's not right in the head-- you know how everyone twists the truth just a tiny bit? Well, she does that times twelve and believes it. She honestly believed that she was helping me and she passes it off as that. And, she was abused as a child, so in some ways, it simply makes sense to her. And I am so grateful that she broke the cycle for all of my sisters, even if she didn't completely for me. But, even still, I never want to go to her when I have problems, and I still have the underlying, subconscious problems of an abuse victim.

So, to sum that all up, I have forgiven her, and it's made life easier, but I still need major help. So the fact that I wanted my mother in the middle of the night is so wonderful. I started crying almost immediately. Thank God for small steps forward.

Sorry if this makes no sense, and you had no desire to read of my many problems. It's one in the morning and I'm sick

A little RL mixed in with FF

Apparently, I have a fever. A really lame, inconvenient fever. First, I have a fic for a challenge that is already overdue (thank you computer gods for hating me so much. My fic was lost, and now I'm rewriting it- plus, this isn't the first time it's happened), but all I can seem to get out is morose, mediocre garbage. Which doesn't work with a fic that was supposed to be a light, fluffy comedy with very small, slight angst. Well, now I figure out why nothing comes out like it should, and why it takes me so much longer to get out so much less.

Second, as I am working my way through college, I recently found a job at a day care. The pay isn't the best, and because I'm new, my hours aren't as many as I would like them to be, but I like it. And, now, I happen to have a fever that is reducing me to chills and trying very hard not to fall asleep. According to their policy, if you have a fever, you are contagious; A.K.A.: don't show up!

I am currently trying to finish this fic, stop shivering every freakin' second, not snap at everyone who crosses my path, and stop imagining a non-existent  boyfriend with whom I can cuddle. Especially those who resemble past boyfriends or current friends. Especially current friends. If I must imagine, I think it should be with funny!Draco, tenth Doctor, or Shawn from the wonderful Psych. Hopefully laughter and forgetfulness would ensue.

Sorry for the whinging.

If there were such things as mates for Veelas and Werewolves, it is completely illogical for there to be homosexual urgings for these people. Their biological urgings would be so that they could procreate and with someone who could provide them with many healthy children. Spiritual/personality compatibility would come second.

Personally, I don't like slash at all-- it just doesn't do it for me, not for any other reason-- but this is really bothers me. That simply wouldn't happen, makes no sense, and isn't ratiional, you know? Like Ron and Hermione.

Okay, that was just my short little rant.

I thought this was pretty amusing. This is for a non hp thing I've been working on. It kept on saying I write like JKR, but I had a suspicion that it was just the names and magic, etc... turns out I was right!
